In 2007, he is killed during a mission with Nanami to exorcise a Grade 2 cursed spirit that was underestimated to be a Grade 1 spirit instead. His death heavily impacted Nanami, as Nanami was the only second year remaining after Haibara's death, and also led him to reconsider being a Jujutsu sorcerer.
